Mulligan

from $140.00

Apgar Village / Glacier National Park on 10/8/2024 at 3:30am

It took two trips into West Glacier for this shot. On the first trip, I took over 200+ shots under a brilliant aurora display. Riding high at being lucky enough to capture the aurora in Glacier, I drove back to my temporary home for the week and loaded the pictures onto my laptop.

Garbage.

Well, not a complete loss. But I had knocked my camera out-of-focus. I had 200+ pictures of pretty, fuzzy colors with donut hole stars.

After sulking around for 10 minutes about my blown opportunity, I hopped into the car and drove back to West Glacier. I got lucky once...could I be lucky again? I waited and crossed my fingers. It took over thirty minutes, but after shifting further down the shoreline, I finally got what I was looking for. Brightening pillars in the Western skies.

Within 5 minutes, pillars had spread across the entire arc. While not as intense as earlier, it was a beautiful display. I counted my lucky stars at getting a second chance and shot away ... after verifying my camera was still in focus.
