Goblin Valley Milky Way on 4/15/2026 at 3:45am
There are dark skies, and then there are dark skies. And Utah has some of the darkest skies in the country. Knowing that, I've been wanting to venture over to Utah during Milky Way core season for several years and finally got my chance.
My first destination was Goblin Valley State Park, where under Bortle 1 class skies, the Goblins appear to be watching the rising Milky Way in the early morning hours.
It took some wandering to find this specific spot, and I wasn't sure exactly what the foreground looked like while shooting. But the Milky Way was bright enough to faintly illuminate my surroundings, and my camera picked up a lot more.
I can't emphasize enough how spectacular the skies looked. If you ever want to see really dark skies, Utah is a great place to visit.
