I’ve always dreamed of shooting the aurora at Glacier National Park. I never thought it would happen. Somehow, I found myself in Kalispell Montana when a powerful X-class flare lifted a massive CME toward Earth. Two days later, it impacted.
I spent five hours that night driving the Sun Road, seeing sights that will stay with me a lifetime. But as the night wore on, clouds rolled in, and the aurora was fading once more.
Although I had plenty of shots from Lake McDonald, I couldn’t resist making one final stop before shutting it down. While I didn’t expect much, the calmness of the fading aurora seemed an appropriate end to a perfect night.
