What could be better than last year's G4 geomagnetic storm? How about a G5? It's been 20 years since the last G5, and this one ranked as one of the greatest solar storms in the past 500 years.
The weather was iffy earlier in the day, and I was driving through rain less than an hour before taking this shot. But by the time I arrived on site, the skies had cleared, and the aurora was everywhere! North, South, East, West ... it didn't matter where you looked! It stayed that way all night.
